TALAIA in Project Management Office Hours radio show

As we had already announced in our previous post about the expansion of Talaia by the North American market. Last week we had the opportunity to participate in the radio show Project Management Office Hours, which we sponsored together with THE PMO SQUAD.

So we had the pleasure of attending in live and talking about the management of projects, tools, functionalities, and an endless number of curiosities, what if you want to discover you’ll have to listen to the podcast!

The alliance between Talaia OpenPPM and The PMO SQUAD was officially announced and for the first time. As the Talaia partner in the North American market, helping in the sales process as well as with clients offering professional services and advice.

The program began by welcoming the guests and talking about the meeting that took place at the PMI Phoenix dinner in July. Leading to an entertaining debate about how our brain works and to know about what creates “funnels” in our minds. This is an interesting topic for Project Managers, to help us better understand how our teams can be more efficient.

Joe started talking about project management with Fabrice to learn more about the solution offered by Talaia OpenPPM and how it differs from other similar products. Fabrice responded to a tweet about AI for PPMs. And Tom, the other guest offered many years of perspective and experience working for various organizations. He shared with us his key personality traits for a project manager. Tom also responded to a tweet asking for skills vs. techniques. Continuing with a great debate of Cascada vs Agile, with some new answers in front of what we had heard in previous programs.

What trends shaping the future of Project Management?

 

At the same time that science, technology, markets and society, the Project Management world progress in fast mood. Professional Project Manager  has to want learn and know about it. This post has to show the secrets for not staying back and adapt you to this time.

These trends are:

Prepare someone own maybe it is more difficult and could not give results. Stay save and find the best professionals to form part of the team.

 

  • Management tools implantation. Makes easier the work. Allows control and monitoring the project progress. Without doubts it is the best inversion for the company that compensate the results for the fact that’s provide information in a real time and join analysis predict for the possible mistakes to correct in time (agile scrum).

 

  • Giving more importance to PMO’s. It is increasing the number of Project Management Offices because allowing the strategy of organization with PMO’s, its achieve the original goals in one easy way.

 

These five trends are without doubt the shape to future of project management. They help to improve all results of company that has a professional Project Manager if achieve with all of it and its in constant formation, want learning about news, analyzing the competence to progress, having to a demonstrable experience as Project Manager. Let’s know what is a Project Management Office (PMO)

A Project Management Office is an intern or extern group that manages, mantain and protect the standardize for projects trough organization. Keeps the good ways, status and direction of projects.  Not all companies are ready to use PMO, but is a good idea in big organizations if have a lot of projects.

PMO ensures that all work is going in time and do it right, and may:

  • Give a real solutions that contribute benefits to the business
  • Line up the corporative strategy with culture
  • To be the key for the organization
  • Integrate dates and information
  • Has resources, methodologies, tools and tactics for projects are good
  • Identify and envelope a good agile methodology for the company

Exists different types of PMO, characterizes for the different kind of authority granted to them within the company. Let’s point out the three models that we consider as main:

  • Supportive PMO. Provides support expertly with good work, accessing to information. The group can work in the company where the projects are coming out but need and additional control. The objective of this project management is to procure a cleaner and transversal vision to the project.
  • Controlling PMO. Serves to control and continue with the project if an absence of unity, it’s necessary for everything carried out as planned. The objective is to generate all documentation that the internal and external auditors of the company decide.
  • Directive PMO. Dedicate to managing people in charge of the projects on how to act. Allocating resources to the Project Managers according to the needs of projects. This project management is more effective in large organizations and offer service to different areas.
